Milk in Newquay came to us for an 'icon' that would represent their coffee shop, while fitting seamlessly with their existing brand identity and fit out in their location.
There was one quirk to this brief; to include the lamp-post outside of their shop that they've grown to see as a landmark for their great coffee.

Concepts
Concept 1 took the traditional victorian lamp that is now synonymous with the coffee shop, and merges it with the UK's favourite obsession; a takeaway coffee. So simple yet beautifully detailed, with a uniqueness that would serve a true individuality to the brand.

Concept 2 is a much more simple icon that combines the silhouette of the lamp post and the M from Milk, with an ode to milk itself.

Client brief
Milk wanted 1 thing; an icon that would stand out. Their brief was that it had to represent their growing and developing aesthetic and identity, but they also wanted it to be 'clever'. They'd been inspired by our work on the Where.s Fred.s brand identity (click here to see the project) and fell in love with the brand mark as part of their logo suite. Being a clever play on the quirky name, the Fred.s' icon practically created itself. With milk however, the canvas was a little more blank, but the coffee shop's desire to include their beloved lamp post landmark offered creativity to run with.
Brand icon
Across the three options of concept provided, Milk's favourite was option 2; the M motif. With their feedback this developed into a simplified version, removing the negative space from it's construction, and bringing it back to their original logo font.
